Kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Classes Relaunch in Royton at Foundry Grappling
Our Kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes in Royton are officially back at Foundry Grappling, and we couldn’t be more excited to see young grapplers on
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is more than just a martial art—it’s a full-contact sport that empowers children with essential life skills while they have fun and stay active. At Foundry Grappling, our kids’ classes focus on grappling and ground fighting, teaching a range of techniques that include takedowns, pins, chokes, and submissions. Recognised as one of the most effective martial arts in history, BJJ is known for its strategic and practical approach to self-defense.
What sets BJJ apart is its ability to teach children how to stay calm under pressure, think critically, and solve problems in real time. As they train, children learn to face challenges head-on, building resilience and fostering a sense of determination and motivation. Our classes encourage teamwork, respect, and discipline—values that extend beyond the mats and into everyday life.
With our structured training sessions, your child will develop strength, coordination, and flexibility while growing in confidence and forming lifelong friendships. It’s the perfect way to get them away from screens and into an environment where they can thrive, learn, and have fun.
Teens (ages 13-16) can join other children their age in the adults classes at foundry grappling all for just £25 per month. Once 16 their membership will adjust to a regualr adult membership.
Each class includes a warm up followed by a selection of games based around the positions or techniques that are being taught during the session. The class will then move on to the technique section where students will learn a new technique or techniques (position, submission, takedown or sequece etc) they will have some time to drill the technique in pairs. Towards the end of the class is sparring, where children will be given the opportunity for live rounds, where they can wrestle and try out any new techniques. We always end with team building games.
Our kids’ classes are designed for children aged 7-13. We create a supportive and age-appropriate environment within the class that ensures each child feels comfortable and engaged. The majority of children once they turn 14 will be invited to join the adults class with other teens their age.
For the first class, comfortable athletic clothing like a T-shirt and shorts or leggings is fine. Once they decide to continue, we recommend investing in a BJJ gi (uniform), which helps with training and practising techniques.
Yes, safety is our top priority. Our experienced coaches closely supervise each class to ensure techniques are practiced safely. We focus on building skills progressively, so your child can learn at their own pace in a controlled, supportive environment. All coaches are enhanced DBS checked, safeguarding trained and fully insured.
Absolutely. BJJ equips children with practical self-defense skills by teaching them how to control and neutralize larger opponents without relying on strength alone. This training can boost their confidence and awareness in real-world situations.
We offer two kids’ classes per week: Monday and Wednesday evenings at 5 PM, The first week is free and then, its is £25 per month, unlimited classes. No contract.
Apart from learning self-defense, BJJ improves physical fitness, flexibility, and coordination. It also instills important life skills such as resilience, discipline, teamwork, and respect. Children who train in BJJ often find themselves more focused and motivated both in and out of the gym.
Signing up is easy! You can do it all at the gym when you visit for your trail classes, or select a membership above and complete the forms.
